It was an eventful meeting Monday night on April 23rd, 2018. Debbie Mackey took her oath as the Fire Chief. Chief Mackey was previously Ione’s Fire Marshal as well. She is the first female Fire Chief in Jackson’s municipal history. Chief Mackey is married to Chief Ken Mackey for the City of Ione. Chiefs Mackey have three children and a grandchild on the way.
At the same meeting, Emma Brettle was officially sworn in as the Deputy City Clerk. Emma was hired as the Administrative Assistant in December 2017. Following several months of practice and attendance of the Nuts and Bolts training by the City Clerks Association of California, Emma earned the title of Deputy City Clerk. Emma was born and raised in England and moved to California in March 2014 with her husband and two children. Emma was an entrepreneur who owned a successful accounting firm before moving to the States. City Clerk is a new professional territory for Emma, but she is eager to learn and loves what she does. She provides administrative support to all departments and the City Clerk John Georgette.
Angelica Ervin, one of the City’s Accounting Clerks, received the Employee of the Month award from Mayor Gonsalves at Monday’s meeting. Angie was praised for her ability to work in close communication with various State departments to ensure timely processing all cash reimbursements for the City. Her Supervisor Dalacie Blankenship also applauded Angie for her customer services skills. Dalacie said “Angie’s attention to detail along with her calm and respectful approach in dealing with Utility customers has kept billing issues to a minimum”. Angie began working for the City in August 2016 and was the fourth employee who has earned the Award.
Over 50 Firefighters and Police Officers attended Monday’s meeting in dress uniform to support these outstanding individuals. It was a proud moment for City of Jackson Council and staff.
