The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) have been working to remove arsenic contaminated tailings and lessen the likelihood of a failure of the Argonaut Dam. A public meeting was held on August 18, and EPA is working with DTSC on interim and permanent measures to protect the community from a dam failure. This 99 year-old dam is located just above the intersection of Argonaut Drive and Sutter Street.
