The Jackson Fire Department is a volunteer organization providing fire protection and suppression and emergency response to the residents of Jackson and surrounding areas. Emergency assistance is provided for all incidents including vehicle, residential,commercial and industrial situations
where prompt delivery of emergency fire and/or medical services is needed.
Protective services include inspection ofcommercial, industrial, and residential buildings, and enforcement of applicable codes. The Department also provides training for volunteers in the area of fire suppression, rescues, and a wide variety of techniques and applications which accompany these skilled procedures. The Fire Department, through agreements with the Amador County Fire Protection District (AFPD) and other entities, provides automatic and mutual aid response to areas outside Jackson City limits.
Measure M was approved by voters on November 4, 2008. The revenue generated by this measure will enable the City to bring on full-time firefighters to supplement the volunteers. The half-percent sales tax goes into effect on April 1, 2009, and sufficient revenue should be received by October 1, 2009 to begin hiring personnel. Information regarding the hiring process will be posted at a later date.
